Where to Place It

• Best: the north-east corner (Ishan kona), or the east wall — traditionally the most auspicious directions and the ones kept for worship.

How to Install It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Nag Panchami is the most auspicious of all for a Kaal Sarp remedy. Otherwise Monday, the day of Lord Shiva, or Saturday.
2. Clean the place where it will hang, and wipe the yantra gently with a dry cloth.
3. Invoke Lord Ganesha first — chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah".
4. Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times, or as many as you are able.
5. Offer water or raw milk at your Shiva sthan, light a diya and incense, and place the yantra in position.
6. Light a diya before it on Mondays, and perform the Monday abhishek with it in place.

Offering water or raw milk during Shiva abhishek on Mondays is the practice most closely associated with Kaal Sarp remedies — Lord Shiva wears the serpent, and the connection is direct. Observing Nag Panchami is the other.
