Where to Place It

Unlike most framed yantras, this one is often kept where the work is rather than only at the pooja sthan. Both are traditional.

• At home: the north-east or east, or the pooja sthan.
• At work: near your desk, on the east or north side, or near the entrance of the office or shop.
• Facing: ideally placed so you face east or north while chanting before it.
• Height: at eye level or slightly above. Never on the floor.
• Keep the space around it clean — including the desk, which is its own kind of practice.

• In the bedroom facing the bed
• In a store room, or behind a door where it cannot be seen

How to Install It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Ganesh Chaturthi is the most auspicious of all. Otherwise Wednesday, the day of Lord Ganesha, or Angarki Chaturthi when Chaturthi falls on a Tuesday.
2. Clean the place where it will hang, and wipe the yantra gently with a dry cloth.
3. Chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah" 108 times, or as many as you are able.
4. Recite the Vakratunda mantra, which asks for obstacles to be removed from every undertaking, always.
5. Offer durva grass, a flower, a modak if you have one, and light a diya and incense.
6. Chant once before beginning important work — a meeting, a submission, a first day. That habit is the practice.
