Where to Place It

Placement is the single most important thing with a framed yantra. Get this right and everything else is simple.

• Best: the north-east corner (Ishan kona) of the home or room, or on the east wall. The north-east is traditionally the most auspicious direction and the one kept for worship.
• Also suitable: the pooja room, or the north wall.
• Height: at eye level or slightly above. Never on the floor.
• At the workplace: behind or near your desk, on the east or north side, or near the entrance.
• Keep the space around it clean and uncluttered.

Avoid placing it:

• In the bathroom, or on a wall shared with one
• In the bedroom facing the bed
• In the kitchen, where smoke and grease will damage it
• On the south wall, traditionally the least suitable direction for a yantra
• In a store room, or behind a door where it cannot be seen

How to Install It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Wednesday, the day of Lord Ganesha, or Tuesday, the day of Lord Hanuman, in the morning. Any auspicious muhurat is also suitable.
2. Clean the place where it will hang, and wipe the yantra gently with a dry cloth.
3. Invoke Lord Ganesha — chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah" 108 times, or as many times as you are able.
4. Offer a flower, light a diya and incense before it.
5. Hang or place it in its chosen position.
6. Light a diya or incense before it daily, even briefly. That daily moment is the practice — the yantra is where you return to it.
