The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra

The mantra comes from the Rig Veda and is addressed to Lord Shiva as Tryambaka, the three-eyed. Its image is a simple one from a farmer's field — as a ripe cucumber falls away from its vine of its own accord, may we be released from fear and bondage, and not from immortality.

How to Wear or Place It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Monday, the day of Lord Shiva, is the day to begin. Maha Shivratri and the Mondays of Sawan are considered the most auspicious of all.
