Where this yantra actually goes

Most framed yantras are installed at the pooja sthan. This one is different, and the difference is the point.

A student sits at the same desk for hours. What is in front of them during those hours matters — and tradition places the Vidya yantra in the study room, in view of the person studying, rather than in a room they visit once a day.

Place it on the east or north wall of the study, where the student can see it while working. In Vastu, a student is traditionally seated facing east or north, so the yantra on that wall sits directly in their line of sight.

If there is no separate study room, place it wherever the studying actually happens.

Maa Saraswati — knowledge and its expression

Saraswati is not only the goddess of what is learnt. She is the goddess of vak — speech — and of music and the arts. In tradition, knowledge that cannot be expressed is incomplete.

Where to Place It

• Best: the study room, on the east or north wall, in view of the person studying.
• Seating: traditionally the student faces east or north while studying — the yantra on that wall is then directly in front of them.

How to Install It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Vasant Panchami, the day of Maa Saraswati, is the most auspicious of all. Otherwise Wednesday morning, or the first day of a new academic year.
2. Clean the study space where it will hang, and wipe the yantra gently with a dry cloth.
3. Invoke Lord Ganesha first — chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah". Every Vidyarambh begins with him.
4. Chant the Saraswati mantra "Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah" 108 times, or as many as you are able.
5. Place books, notes or instruments before it, as families do on Vasant Panchami, and light a diya and incense.
6. Chant once before sitting down to study, even briefly. That small habit is the practice.
