Where to Place It

• Best: the north of the home — the direction of wealth — or the north-east, the most auspicious corner.
• Most traditional: the pooja sthan, alongside your other deities.
• Facing: ideally placed so you face east or north while worshipping it.
• Height: at eye level or slightly above. Never on the floor.
• Keep the space clean and uncluttered. Lakshmi is traditionally said not to settle where there is disorder — as practical a rule as it is devotional.

How to Install It

1. Choose an auspicious day — Varalakshmi Vratam or Diwali are the most auspicious of all. Otherwise Friday, the day of Maa Lakshmi, or Akshaya Tritiya or Sharad Purnima.
2. Clean the place thoroughly. A clean space is the first step of Lakshmi puja, not a formality.
3. Invoke Lord Ganesha first — chant "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah". Obstacles clear before prosperity settles.
4. Chant the Lakshmi mantra 108 times, or recite the Ashta Lakshmi Stotram.
5. Offer a lotus or any flower, light a diya and incense, and place the yantra in position.
6. Light a diya before it daily, and especially on Fridays and through Diwali.

The Ashta Lakshmi Stotram, which praises each of the eight forms in turn, is the prayer most closely associated with this yantra. Reciting the Shri Suktam and performing Lakshmi puja on Fridays are the other traditional practices — and Varalakshmi Vratam, kept especially in South India, is dedicated to Lakshmi in all her forms.
