Two of the oldest things in Indian spiritual life, on one thread.

Rudraksha is Shiva's bead, worn in this country for thousands of years. Sphatik — clear quartz — is the stone kept beside it: used for japa malas, carved into Shivlings, and valued above all for one quality that has nothing to do with belief.

Sphatik stays cool. Hold a real one in a warm hand and it does not warm with you. That single property is why it has been worn through Indian summers for centuries, and it is also the easiest way to tell a real one from glass.

Sphatik in Indian tradition

Unlike many stones sold today, sphatik is not a modern import into Indian practice. It has a genuine place in it.

  • Sphatik malas are among the most traditional japa malas, particularly for Lakshmi and Gayatri mantras
  • Sphatik Shivlings are kept in homes and temples across the country
  • It is traditionally associated with shanti and shuddhata — peace and purity — and with a cooling, settling effect on the mind
  • In the crystal tradition it is called the master crystal, kept for clarity of thought

Paired with Rudraksha, you have Shiva's bead and Shiva's stone on the same bracelet — which is why this combination is among the most commonly worn of all.

Why People Wear It

  • 💎 Clarity of thought, and a settled mind
  • 🧘 A traditional support for meditation and japa
  • ❄️ Naturally cooling — genuinely comfortable in Indian heat
  • 🕉️ Rudraksha and Sphatik together: Shiva's bead and Shiva's stone
  • 🧿 Traditionally worn for protection and positive energy
  • ✨ Faceted beads that catch light, without being showy
  • 🤝 Unisex and understated — suits daily wear, office and home

How to tell real Sphatik from glass

This matters, because glass sold as sphatik is one of the most common substitutions in the Indian market. These tests take seconds and you can do them at home.

1. The cool test — the best one. Hold the bead in your closed palm for a few seconds. Natural quartz stays cool. Glass warms to your body temperature almost immediately. This is the test jewellers themselves use first.

2. Look for small natural imperfections. Real sphatik usually has faint internal veils, fine lines or tiny inclusions. Glass is perfectly clear, or shows round bubbles — and round bubbles mean glass, every time.

3. Hardness. Quartz is 7 on the Mohs scale; glass is about 5.5. Quartz will scratch glass, not the other way round. (Please do not test this on your own bracelet.)

4. Price. Perfectly flawless, perfectly matched "crystal" at a very low price is usually glass or laboratory-grown quartz.

Who It Is For

  • Anyone who wants a bracelet from the Indian tradition rather than a crystal trend
  • People who meditate or keep a daily japa practice
  • Those who find mental clutter and overthinking a daily problem
  • Anyone who runs hot — sphatik is traditionally worn as a cooling stone
  • First-time buyers wanting something simple, genuine and affordable
  • Anyone who wants Rudraksha on the wrist rather than around the neck

Finding Your Size

A bracelet that fits badly gets taken off and forgotten, so this is worth thirty seconds.

  1. Wrap a measuring tape — or a strip of paper you then measure — snugly around your wrist.
  2. Add about 1.5 to 2 cm to that measurement. That is your bracelet size.
  3. When in doubt, go slightly looser. A bracelet should turn freely on the wrist, not grip it.

As a rough guide, most women's wrists fall between 15 and 17 cm and most men's between 17 and 19 cm. Please check the length listed on the product page.

How to Wear It

  • Either wrist is fine. There is no fixed rule for a bracelet of this kind. Many people wear it on the left, which is a convention rather than a requirement.
  • Monday is traditionally auspicious to begin, being Lord Shiva's day — fitting for both Rudraksha and sphatik.
  • Before first wearing, rinse it briefly in clean water, wipe it dry, and chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times if you wish.
  • Slide it over your hand gently rather than rolling or stretching it on. Elastic lasts far longer that way.
  • Wear it daily. Some traditions suggest removing Rudraksha while bathing, sleeping or during non-vegetarian meals — follow what suits your own practice.

Care — follow the Rudraksha rules, not the quartz ones

This is the one thing worth getting right on a mixed bracelet.

Quartz is hard and durable. Rudraksha is not — it is a natural seed, and it is the more delicate of the two. So the care here follows the bead, not the stone.

  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
  • Avoid soap, perfume, detergent and chemicals — these damage Rudraksha far more than quartz.
  • Remove it before bathing, swimming and washing utensils. Repeated soaking also weakens elastic cord faster than anything else.
  • Apply a drop of olive or mustard oil to the Rudraksha beads every few months so they do not dry out or crack.
  • Remove it during heavy physical work.
  • Replace the cord when it loosens. Elastic stretches over time — any jeweller can restring it for very little.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sphatik? Sphatik is clear quartz — pure, natural rock crystal. It has a long-standing place in Indian practice: sphatik malas are used for japa, and sphatik Shivlings are kept in homes and temples.

How do I know it is not glass? Hold a bead in your closed palm for a few seconds. Natural quartz stays cool; glass warms to your body temperature almost at once. Also look for faint internal veils or lines — real quartz has them, and round bubbles mean glass.

Is sphatik an astrological gemstone? It is not one of the navratna. It is sometimes worn as an upratna for Diamond (Venus), but it is better known in Indian practice as a stone of peace, purity and japa than as a planetary remedy. No chart reading is needed to wear it.

Why is it called cooling? Because of the physics — quartz conducts heat away from the skin and genuinely feels cool to the touch. Tradition made the same observation long before anyone measured it, which is why sphatik is worn through Indian summers.

Which wrist should I wear it on? Either. There is no fixed rule. Some prefer the left as a convention, but it is not a requirement.

How do I choose the right size? Measure your wrist snugly and add about 1.5 to 2 cm. If you are between sizes, choose the looser one — the bracelet should turn on your wrist.

Are there rules because it has Rudraksha in it? Some traditions suggest removing Rudraksha while bathing, sleeping or during non-vegetarian meals. Follow what suits your personal practice and family tradition.

How should I clean it? Follow the Rudraksha rules rather than the quartz ones — a soft dry cloth, no soap or chemicals, and a drop of olive or mustard oil on the Rudraksha beads every few months. Rudraksha is the more delicate of the two materials.

Can it get wet? Better not. Water harms the Rudraksha beads and shortens the elastic cord's life. Remove it before bathing or swimming.

Will the faceted beads lose their shine? Quartz is hard and holds its polish well. Dullness is almost always a film from soap, cream or perfume — a dry cloth usually restores it.

Can men and women both wear it? Yes. It is among the more unisex designs we sell, and it works equally well at the office or at home.

What if the elastic breaks? It is easily restrung by any jeweller at very low cost. Elastic stretching over time is normal, not a defect.

Is it suitable as a gift? Yes — it is affordable, unisex, genuinely traditional, and it asks the recipient to believe nothing in particular.

What is your shipping and return policy for this product? We offer free shipping across India (4–5 business days); international shipping is calculated at checkout.
