How to Use Your 5 Mukhi Rudraksha Mala

As a neck mala:

1. Choose an auspicious day — Monday is traditionally considered favourable for first wearing Rudraksha.
2. Cleanse the mala with clean water and wipe dry with a soft cloth before first use.
3. Energize it (Pran Pratishtha) using the mantra below, ideally in the morning after a bath, facing east.
4. Wear it around the neck, letting it rest close to the heart, and keep it on throughout the day.

As a japa mala for chanting:

1. Hold the mala in your right hand, letting it rest over the middle finger, and use the thumb to move one bead at a time.
2. Begin at the bead next to the head (Meru) bead and chant your mantra once per bead.
3. Work your way around all 108 beads without crossing over the head bead — when you reach it, turn the mala around and continue in the opposite direction for further rounds.

Mantra for Energizing Your Mala

Chant the following mantra 11 or 108 times while holding the mala in your hands during energization, and optionally each morning before wearing it:
