The Two Beads

Rudraksha is the sacred seed of the Elaeocarpus tree, regarded in tradition as the tears of Lord Shiva and worn for peace, protection and spiritual growth.

Karungali is the dense, naturally dark heartwood of the ebony tree, linked with Mangal and with Lord Murugan in Tamil tradition, and worn to ward off negative energy.

Both are natural materials, so size, shade and grain vary from bead to bead.

How to Wear

  1. Choose a day – Monday, the day of Lord Shiva, is most commonly chosen.
  2. Place it in your puja for a short while before first wearing.
  3. Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" a few times while putting it on.
  4. Wear it daily, removing it before bathing or swimming.

Care & Maintenance

  • Keep it away from water, soap and perfume – both Rudraksha and wood can dry out or crack.
  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear.
  • A drop of mustard or olive oil every few months keeps the beads from drying out.
  • Traditionally, Rudraksha is treated as personal – avoid lending it to others.

  • No. Every item is purified and energised by Pandit Ji from Mathura–Vrindavan before dispatch. Many devotees also do a short home ritual before first wearing; this is optional.
