Pushkar – A Divine Spiritual Place in India

Cradled in a valley surrounded by the Aravalli hills in Rajasthan, Pushkar is one of the most ancient and sacred towns in India. It is the only place in the world with a dedicated temple to Lord Brahma, the creator god of the Hindu Trinity. The town is built around the sacred Pushkar Lake, believed to have been formed when a lotus fell from Brahma's hand. With its 52 bathing ghats, over 500 temples and the legendary Pushkar Camel Fair, this mystical town offers a unique blend of spirituality, culture and vibrant Rajasthani life.

🕉️ Mythology

According to the Padma Purana, Lord Brahma was searching for a suitable place to perform a great yajna (fire ritual). He dropped a lotus flower from the sky, and it fell in three places, creating three lakes — Jyeshtha (Senior), Madhya (Middle) and Kanishtha (Junior) Pushkar. At the main lake, Brahma performed his yajna. However, his wife Saraswati was delayed, so he married Gayatri to complete the ritual on time. When Saraswati arrived and found another woman in her place, she cursed Brahma that he would never be worshipped anywhere in the world except Pushkar — which is why this is the only Brahma temple on earth.
